Lots of noise about Uber in Cabo at the moment. And lots of our clients asking questions. Here’s what we have to say on the subject…
Uber was officially rolled out in Cabo in October 2018. Tourists and locals are now both using the service.
Unsurprisingly, the rollout has not received a warm welcome from local taxi drivers. Social media rumors abound - of taxi drivers intimidating Uber drivers and passengers. Although most of these claims have not been substantiated. It’s fair to say there is definitely an air of conflict around the service at present.
And there’s quite a debate. Some people feel that taxi drivers have had a monopoly on the Cabo transport market for long enough. Others say that Uber will undermine local transport companies that have worked hard to become established. Still others argue that cab companies seriously overcharge…
What’s our view on all this? Well, we believe everyone should be free to make their own choices around transport. We also believe there is room in the local market for some heathy competition. And we know that people very often pay much more than they should…
